Crazy Love Records - Vinyl Reissues.

Guido over at Crazy Love Records has gone ballistic in recent times reissuing some psycho and rockin' classics on vinyl. Have a gander below at all the goodies on offer from the prince of pristine and his label of loot!

Originally released back in 2003 as a CD-only album, you can now get your claws on it in both black and orange vinyl. The orange pressing is a hand-numbered limited edition of 108.

This 2005 release from Rockabilly Mafia is also seeing its first outing on vinyl. Again we have two colours to choose from. Hard man black and gigolo red. The red is a hand-numbered limited edition of 110.

Two tracks from Demented Are Go which were first featured back in 1985 on the Hell's Bent On Rockin' compilation album. Not only have we three colours to choose from (black, red and orange...the red is limited to 54 copies and the orange to 56) but the sound on this release is superior to the original vinyl release.

Late last year Stomp Records gave us the Gutter Demons 5th studio album. You can read my review of it here if you haven't already. Anyway, our Guido has licensed a vinyl release of the 12 inch throbber on both black and silver vinyl. You guessed it, the silver is a limited edition.

It's been two years since the last Rockabilly Mafia album. Jaysus it feels more like two months. You know that music has taken over your life when you start putting time scales on things in conjunction with when such and such an album was released. Anyway, the trio are back with another knee-slapping tour de force of neo rockabilly refinement and Teddy Boy-esque tunesmithing excellence. Rockabilly Mafia have always had a very simplistic approach to music. Their recipe is fairly elementary. Take a set of drums, a guitar, a slap bass and write infectious rockabilly rhythms. But this concoction takes skill to pull off right. The songs on here don't sound like a million other rockabilly songs. At the risk of sounding like Louis Walsh...they make rockabilly their own! The only downside to Rockabilly Mafia albums (for non-German speakers) is that it's usually a 50/50 mix of German/English language songs so half the time I don't know what the fuck they're singing about. But with that said, that infectious Rockabilly Mafia beat coupled with those ear-pleasing guitar hooks make me not particularly care what they're singing about anyway. But with THAT said...I always enjoy the wit and grass roots approach they take with their English language tracks. This is the 16th album from the lads, all self-penned songs (including an excellent reworking of On The Run) and all in keeping with the standard you've come to expect from Rockabilly Mafia. Coming in sexy digipak packaging with a twenty page booklet including lyrics and all manner of insights. These boys are thee most melodious outfit on Planet Rockabilly. The perfect fusion of neo rockabilly and Teddy Boy stomp.

Ah yes. Rockabilly Mafia. They look like a Ted band but sound like an early 80s neo rockabilly band. This isn't a love em or hate em kind of band. Everyone loves Rockabilly Mafia. So here they are again with an album full of primal neo rockabilly beats. The drum and bass sound on this album have a kind of jungle sound going on...a bit like Batmobile's Bambooland album. Loads of tom-tom drums (the snare even sounds like a tom) and that all-important woody resonance on the slap bass. Whereas by no means a psychobilly outfit, some psychobilly bands could take a leaf out of Michel "Ted" Harbeck's book and actually sing but sound psychotic at the same time. The lads have always had a crossover appeal. They could quite easily feel right at home at a Ted, Rockabilly or Psychobilly festival. This was never as true as it is on this album. It's rockabilly done right. Not some safe museum piece with a rule book included. Fuck me I hate that shit. Rockabillies in the 50s weren't trying to sound safe. Some of the stuff they recorded sounded like shite because the recording equipment they had was shite. Why replicate that? Rockabilly Mafia have no interest in sounding "authentic" as is obvious on this album. Rockabilly is supposed to be wild, right? The Mafia boys obviously think so. Never taking themselves too seriously and just having a good time which in turn emanates from the recordings. Crazy Love have done an excellent job on the packaging. The album comes in a digipak with 20 page booklet for added sex appeal. But we'd expect nothing less from our Guido, the dirty label-owning fecker. Look at him there. Teasing us with his big booklets! ..........................But anyway, an excellent release from Rockabilly Mafia which will appeal to just about any facet of the rockin' scene. Coming soon on vinyl too if you please!!
